In our Kookaburra Bush Preschool Program, there is a variety of activities that we incorporated to provide children with rich experiences in nature. Here are some common activities your child will explore in our Kookaburra Bush Preschool Program:
- Nature walks: Children go on guided walks in natural settings, exploring the surrounding environment, observing plants, insects, and animals, and learning about the natural ecosystem.
- Outdoor play: Children engage in unstructured play in nature, allowing them to run, jump, balance, and explore their surroundings freely. Natural elements such as logs, rocks, and sand may be incorporated into play areas.
- Nature-based arts and crafts: Children create artwork using natural materials like leaves, flowers, twigs, and pebbles. They may make nature collages, leaf rubbings, or create sculptures using found objects.
- Storytelling and imaginative play: Nature provides inspiration for storytelling and imaginative play. Children may act out stories about animals, pretend to be explorers, or create imaginative scenarios using their natural surroundings.
- Planting and gardening: Children learn about plants, their life cycles, and how to care for them. They may participate in planting seeds, tending to a garden, and observing the growth of plants over time.
- Wildlife observation: Children have the opportunity to observe and learn about local wildlife, such as birds, insects, or small mammals. They might use binoculars or magnifying glasses to get a closer look at animals and their habitats.
- Survival skills and outdoor education: As children spend time in nature, they may learn basic survival skills, such as building a shelter, identifying edible plants, or understanding basic navigation techniques.
- Sensory activities: Children engage their senses through activities like smelling flowers, feeling different textures, listening to natural sounds, and tasting
edible plants (under supervision and guidance).
- Campfire cooking and storytelling: Children may gather around a campfire, learning basic fire safety and cooking simple meals or snacks. This provides an opportunity for storytelling, singing songs, and building a sense of community.
