Koala September Newsletter

This month began with us celebrating our wonderful Father’s with a breakfast offering bacon and egg rolls and the chance for our dads to visit with us for the morning. We also used our emerging creative skills to paint a mug and decorate a card to give to dad on Father’s Day. Thank you, Koala Dads, for all that you do for us.
This month’s book is Handa’s Surprise, a beautiful book set in Kenya about offering thoughtful gifts to friends, in this case a variety of fruits. It has prompted lots of discussion on various fruits, their origin and what our favourite fruits are. We also looked at where Kenya is on the map in comparison to Australia and discussed its similarities and differences. We talked about friendship and being kind towards everyone. We also explored our creativity as we recreated real life fruits with a variety of artistic mediums such as paint, crayons and charcoal. We wonder what learning journey our next Book of the Month will take us on.

This month’s collective topic has focused on building and construction. We began by looking at floor plans and architectures. We learnt about builders and took a closer look at what’s in their tool belt as well as construction machinery. We researched many buildings such as homes, units, and public structures such as hospitals. We also observed a variety of famous buildings from around the world such as pyramids, the Eiffel Tower and our very own Opera House.
To complete the month, we celebrated Early Childhood Educator’s Day. We kindly made each of our educators’ cards and went to present one to each of them.
Can’t wait for next month, Miss Janelle, Miss Jessie and Miss Alison.
