Mini Gardeners & Environment
Gardening sees our children maintaining and planting their own gardens, as well picking some fresh produce for their cooking experiences. The kids also have the opportunity to learn responsibility and how to respect and look after their environment.
Through this process children have developed an understanding of, their environment, where food comes from, how to look after their plants. Mini Gardeners gives teachers the opportunity to take the classroom outdoors and we know that learning through doing and unstructured play allows children to participate in active learning. Children all learn in different ways and being a mini gardener inspires creativity and extends their thinking.
Oxford Falls ELC has amazing natural grounds and this is a key part of our philosophy. Our large natural playgrounds inspire teachers and children to learn about the importance of preserving our natural environment through hands-on activities, like planting vegetable and herb gardens and then incorporating their produce into a delicious snack.
